A cup of tea

Are you hot?

Are you cold?

You should drink a cup of tea

Are you ill?

Are you fine?

You should drink a cup of tea

Are you hungry?

Are you full?

You should drink a cup of tea

Are you certain?

Or unsure?

You should drink a cup of tea

Cups of tea are special

They always fit the brief

You can’t drink coffee late at night

Before you go to sleep

But cups of tea can be enjoyed

At any time of day

From the morning as the sun rises

Or right at close of play.

Tea is tantalising

Tea is a treat

A treat throughout the year

If you’re not sure

What you should drink

Let tea give you a steer.

You’ll cool your boots

And find your roots

Inside a cozy mug

Tea’s so nice

Even with spice

Or from an enormous jug.

I don’t drink tea

Often enough

But when I do it’s true

Tea is great

So nice in fact

I’ll even share with you.

Picking a Playlist

Picking a playlist

To sum me up

Could be brand new

Every day

I try to find moods

Which ease and soothe

Whatever the world

Brings my way.

Sometimes they are happy

Boisterous and fun

Other days slow,

Lethargic or glum

But whatever the weather

This bird has new feathers

As the day is anew

Something with some pep

Or a tap in your step

Or maybe a little blues.

Cinema Sunday

Cinema Sunday

Watching movies

In my recliner seat

In between screens

We take a walk

And get a bite to eat

Cinema Sunday

Transport my brain

Into some brand new stories

Forget about the world a while

No need for Monday worries.

Pages

Pages of books

Folding and flipping

Stories which dazzle

Or some which need skipping

Words in a row

Wondering like ducks

Through the brain

Driving like trucks

Pages and pages

Fly through the mind

The air miles you rack up

Are the imaginative kind

Pages are parts

Of a long, long road

A hero’s first steps

Or love which unfolds

Pages are wondrous

Each one is unique

So I spent all my money

On new books to read.

Days

Days they pass

Hours meander

Minutes just stop by

Seconds glitter

Like curtains which twitter

Gone in the blink of an eye.

Days are moments

A collage of time

Held together with tinsel

Weaving through

The fabric of time

Making days sparkle and twinkle

Days are magic

Nights are too

They hide all sorts of secrets

Where do owls go?

Who do they visit?

What do people dream?

As days get longer

Smiles grow stronger

And people all get cheery

I’m off to the pub

To meander some pints

And get a little beery.

The Sun

Sunshine is magic

Sunshine is fresh

When you live in Scotland

Sunshine is best

So many months

Pass without any

Only the sun

Which you see on the telly

Sunshine is creeping

Back into our lives

‘Where did you go?

Your return’s a surprise?’

Oh, Prodigal sun

Where have you been?

Tell us your stories

And all of your dreams

You must have seen days

And just as many nights

Tell us what makes you

Such a delight

Sunshine is magic

And here for a season

So if you plan to go out

Then make sunshine your reason.

Whatever it is

Whatever it is that you’re doing

And whatever you want to do

Keep doing the things that you’re doing

Which make you feel like you’re you.

There are things that will make you feel you-er

And other things which don’t at all

So the things that make you feel bluer

You can throw in the bin like a ball.

Bundle up all of your troubles

Tie them all up with a bow

Prepare your best shot

You can manage the lot

And in the bin they all will go.

Today’s the day

I thought a long time about cycling to work

But found reasons not to, like rain

Wind, cold, and snow, and frost

But today was a sunny day

I found other reasons not to do it

Each one surpassed the last

Each reason enforcing each other

Like not really cycling that fast

But today was different

I woke up with sun on my face

And I thought to myself

Today is finally the day.

I cycled along,

a smile on my face

The sun in my eyes

My bike on its way

Now I return home

My legs are like jelly

So I’ll just put them up

And watch me some telly.

What day you’ll have

When you wake up in the morning

You don’t know what day you’ll have

Some parts might make you feel buzzing

And others which make you less glad

When you wake up and you roll out

Your feet both hit the floor

There are days when it feels

Like a super appeal

To lie back down and sleep some more.

Days are like the cake of life

Each one has icing and filling

Those are the moments which make you smile

Or absolutely hit the ceiling.

We’re all just like some bumper cars

Bumping through every day

No real direction

But laughs, and shocks

Are every direction you stray.

I don’t know the day you’re expecting

Nor the one you’ve just had

But I hope that if it’s a difficult one

It’s still one that makes you feel glad.

Spending time

How do you choose to spend your time?

Do you like to budget?

Scrimping seconds throughout the day

To spend some on a film

How do you like to spend your time?

Do you spend it here and there?

Using your minutes and hours to do

Everything without a care

How do you like to spend your time?

We all get the same amount

Unlike money, our time is equal

So make every moment count.

I love spending time on things

That make me feel free

Riding our bikes beside the sea

That sounds alright to me.
